Canada is a uniquely multicultural society with a global soundscape, because it has welcomed people from around the world. Indian music has become a Canadian music thanks to talented and passionate individuals like Wasanti Paranjape who were committed to making it a second classical music in their new homeland. With her music books and harmonium, and with three young children, Wasanti Paranjape started life in Edmonton as the wife of a new Physics professor. Over the next forty-five years, she made a significant contribution to the musical scene in Edmonton, sharing her knowledge of North Indian classical music through performance and private teaching and as the director of the Indian Music Ensemble at the University of Alberta.
